Since we've been going through covid, it feels as though we've been in a pressure cooker. We are under a lot more pressure and our usual outlets for processing are not available right now. This is making many of us more aware of things we'd like to change about our lives, relationships and ourselves. It can feel overwhelming to be faced with so much at once.
To really take advantage of what is being offered during this time, it's important to stop and take an inventory of what is coming up, so we can find ways of making the necessary changes to move us forward in a happier, healthy direction. Here are three ways to clear the clutter from your mind and grow from what we are being presented with: Step 1: Awareness The first thing you can do is to start becoming aware of what’s coming up for you. WITHOUT judging it. Just notice what’s happening. Are there behaviors you'd like to change or outdated beliefs you'd like to upgrade? Notice what's bubbling up. Notice new aspirations. Notice things you’d like to change or make improvements to. Then, make a list. Getting things out of your head and onto paper is a great first step in reducing overwhelm. Step 2: Prioritize Prioritize your list by what’s most important and also what would be the easiest to tackle. Pick the low hanging fruit first. If there’s something easy you can do to clear some clutter from your mind, pick that first. For the more complex issues, break them down into bite size pieces. What are 1-3 steps you can take right now to move the situation forward? For example, schedule a session with your coach or therapist, schedule a massage, research a solution online, buy a book, call the doctor, whatever that first step may be, write it down. Step 3 Take Action Get out your calendar and find a time to start working through your list. Ideally pick the same time each week to start making progress. It's important to schedule time for yourself every week. Block the time on your calendar or it will never happen. Take one step at a time. We don’t have to tackle huge projects all at once. We create change by committing to aligned action each day. Then over the course of a month, 6 months or a year, you get to look back at your progress. So, grab a piece of paper. Start tracking what’s coming up you. What wants your attention? What have you been avoiding, running from or suppressing? No judging, just make a list. Then, prioritize your list by what’s most important plus the low hanging fruit and schedule a time to start making it happen. Check out my video discussing this topic. |
