Do you cringe when you hear the word sales? Do you think sales people are slimy? Do you dread talking about money with potential clients? If so, you are going to have a very difficult time selling your services and charging what you’re worth.
I used to HATE sales! I hated discussing money with people. I didn’t like anyone selling to me and I didn’t want to be that person. Luckily, I worked with a coach that helped me shift. Now, I LOVE sales! I find it very fun. I love helping people break through to say yes to what they need and teaching them what I know. Here’s how to shift: Switch Your Mindset from SELLING to SHARING. You aren’t selling the person anything. You are helping them fulfill a need. They need help and you know how to help. Plain and simple. They will end up paying someone to get the help they need. Why not share yourself and make it you. When you go into your discovery conversations, get into the mindset of sharing yourself, what you know and how you can help. Come from a place of service, not trying to close the sale. Be authentic with no attachment to the outcome. If the person is interested in what you’re saying and offering, they will ask how to work with you. Then you can explain your services and fees to them. When you are being yourself, people are much more interested in working with you anyway. Start paying attention to your energy throughout your money conversations. You may notice that it’s easy to be open and connect with your potential client when you’re discussing your services. But then get really nervous when you start discussing payment. Potential clients will notice this shift in your energy and the situation can turn awkward quickly and/or they may lose trust in you. If this is happening to you, no worries. The key to maintaining your energy throughout your money conversations is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Practice what you will say when someone asks how much you charge out loud to yourself. Practice until you don’t miss a beat when you throw out your price. Practice until it feels completely natural to you to discuss your pricing with people. You have to be willing to discuss money with people. It helps to start doing it in your personal life. It amazes me how people act over money. They act like you are talking about sex, religion or politics. It’s MONEY! We all have it. We all need it. I believe we should start discussing money more freely in our culture. It’s no wonder people have so many money problems. People are so afraid of discussing money. I’m on a mission to change this. Start practicing now. Show more courage when it comes to money conversations. Don’t shy away. Trust me, it gets easier with time.
